First Maiden Flight - A Success, June 21, 2010 By Russell S. Sobel
•This review is from: ParkZone T-28D Trojan BNF (Toy) •I just had a wonderful first maiden flight with my new T-28D BNF. I've worked my way up by route of a Mini Super Cub, a Micro J-3 and a Micro P-51 (as well as some time on the Phoenix flight sim which has a T-28D). This is one great flying plane. I was doing rolls, loops, split S turns, and everything I had practiced on my flight sim on my first flight. I set my dual rates on my DX6i to 70% with 35% expo (all three: aileron, rudder, and elevator). The setup may be a bit much for a person with no experience, though. It went together quick and easy, but I ended up (1) having to reverse the controls on my DX6i for the Rudder and Aileron (but the elevator was okay) and, (2) had to adjust the length of the rods on the plane (by twisting the ends) to get the elevator and nose gear to be level/straight. Had I flown it out of the box without checking the manually adjusted trims and if stuff was reversed, it would have been a bad scene. So I highly recommend this plane as it's easy to fly, believe it or not much easier than my Mini Super Cub or my Micro P-51, but I also highly recommend having someone who knows what they are doing help setting it up, or just being really careful to check the controls and trims prior to first flight. Also, based on forum comments, I added some bright yellow and bright orange wide sticky tape (like 4 or 5 inch wide sold at most hobby stores) to the bottom of the wings to increase visibility of the gray body of the plane, and with that on I had no problems seeing the plane. I think owning one of these T-28's and a Micro P-51 has to be one of the most ideal pair of planes. The T-28D does take a lot more room to fly and especially to land, so the Micro is perfect for my house/yard, and the T-28 for bigger flying areas.
