Great headphone, March 22, 2012 By BonesighNYC (NYC)
MDR7506 Sony:
This review is from: Sony MDR7506 Professional Large Diaphragm Headphone (Electronics) I've previously owned MDR7505's which were great. I wanted a set of cans that I could use on my bus commute. I've been using Bose in-ear phones which sound nice, but wanted more isolation and clarity. So I bought these. Well, they sound great! I listen to various rock, country, jazz, neo-soul for the most part. The frequency response is awesome, and the 7506's are easily driven by my iPad and iPod. I've tried quite a few headphones, and for the price, these are outstanding. Sure, my Sennheiser HD-650's are better, but not by leaps and bounds. I would buy these again in a second. Buy these and save yourself some money instead of overpaying for a product that is not nearly as good. Don't get fooled by the hype (i.e. Beats). Your ears will thank you.

From MDR-V6 to MDR-7506, March 28, 2012 By Steven C. Miller (Long Island, NY)
MDR7506 Sony:
This review is from: Sony MDR7506 Professional Large Diaphragm Headphone (Electronics) These headphones are definitely the successor to the old faithful Sony MDR-V6. Those who assume the MDR-V600's are the successor are definitely making a mistake if they go that route. The only difference between the MDR-V6 and the MDR-7506 is the frequency response spec. The V6 range was claimed to be 5Hz - 30kHz. The range of the 7506 is listed as 10Hz - 20kHz. However, since the human ear cannot hear sounds below 27Hz nor above about 18kHz, this difference is moot. The MDR-V6 and this successor, the MDR-7506, are easily the best headphones I've ever used (and I've used many), and they are both the professional standard by which all others are measured, especially when considering the price. If you're looking for headphones, don't hesitate to buy these. You will not be disappointed in the least.

15 years and still my favs, March 19, 2012 By Hendrix' Dad
MDR7506 Sony:
This review is from: Sony MDR7506 Professional Large Diaphragm Headphone (Electronics) I have been in the music industry for almost 20 years as a player and producer, and purchased these in 1998. They are still my go-to pair of studio monitor headphones (going strong for 15 years!). PROs: The sound is pure and full, and covers the full spectrum range. Bass frequencies do not get muddy, even on bad pre-mixes. I find I can isolate distinct sectors of the soundstage more easily with these headphones than any other I have tried. The cord is long and strong and has never come apart from the plug or the headphones. The wear is very comfortable on these. Straight 48 hour sessions with no ear fatigue or equipment induced headaches. CON: I cant complain...After 14 years, the material covering the ear padding slightly came apart form the headphone housing. It has been a year since, and hasnt gotten worse. And this is with daily use! Not too bad at all...and no one I know could even wear the headphones they bought 15 years ago, nevermind use them daily. So a little tear is an acceptable trade off for long term use. Like other posters, I have tried a lot of other options on the market in the last 20 years and these have ALWAYS been my favorites. For only $100, you could say the same thing in 15 years. How many other models can stand up to that? Good luck!
